Comedian Dave Chappelle said Wednesday that for the first time in his life, he will walk into a voting booth in November.

Chappelle, star of Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show, said during an appearance on Air America Radio Network's "The Majority Report," that even though people died during the civil rights movement to give him the right to vote, "it never seemed, personally, that important to me."

"I'm going to participate this year," said the 30-year-old black comedian. "But I'm disheartened."

In the interview with Sam Seder and Janeen Garofolo on the new liberal radio network, Chappelle complained about the lack of honesty among today's crop of candidates. He said that's because Americans say they want the truth, but demand elected officials only tell them what they want to hear.

"I have never been more disgusted...in my life" because of the political climate of the country, Chappelle said. He did not indicate who he would vote for - President George W. Bush or Democratic nominee, Sen. John Kerry.

Chappelle is not the only entertainer to enter the election fray. Last year, rapper LL Cool J announced that he was casting his first-ever vote for New York Gov. George Pataki after the Republican led the effort to
build a$30 million, 54-unit family housing development in South Jamaica Queens, New York.
